The 7 Things Emotionally Intelligent People NEVER Do

If you want to boost your emotional intelligence (EI), learning by observation would seem to be a logical strategy: identify somebody with high EI (online or in real life), observe them, and adopt some of the behaviors that make them effective communicators and leaders.

But the problem with this approach is that many of the attributes of emotional intelligence are difficult to observe from the outside.

Instead, let’s approach it from another angle and examine seven things a person with high EI would NEVER do.

Refuse To Ask For Help

People with high EI have a clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

They are confident in their abilities but also know when to ask for help.

Avoid Conflicts

People with high EI aren’t afraid of difficult conversations.

They view these conversations as an opportunity to reach a consensus, clear the air, and reach a positive outcome.

Lash Out

They rarely lose their temper and take it out on other people.

Sure, they may get upset, but they always think before they act.

They have learned self-soothing skills to defuse stressful or anxious feelings and situations.

Bury Their Emotions

Just because people with high EI don’t lose their cool doesn’t mean they don’t experience negative emotions.

What sets them apart is that they recognize these feelings in the moment and express them appropriately.

Get Crushed By Failure

People with high EI always bounce back.

They acknowledge bad news or failure and are able to quickly integrate lessons and move forward.

Dismiss New Ideas

Those with high EI have strong beliefs and preferences but are always open to new ideas and experiences.

Allow Others To Determine Their Self-Worth

People with high EI know themselves well.

They are confident and understand both their strengths and weaknesses.

Other people’s judgments do not make them feel insecure or unsure.
